KANE COUNTY EAGLES REMAIN UNDEFEATED WHILE WINNING THEIR SECOND
MID-CONTINENTAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Kane County (IL.) Eagles captured their second straight Mid-Continental Football
League championship on Saturday night by defeating the Cleveland (OH) Lions by a
score of 41 to 17. The combination of the KC Eagles win and a Scranton (PA) Eagles
loss (Scranton was also undefeated), in the Empire Football League championship game,
kept the KC Eagles on top of the AFA's ‘power ratings' perch. The win puts the Kane
County team closer to winning the AFA's Midwest Regional title and a shot at their 3rd
AFA National Championship. Currently standing in the Eagles way to an uncontested
regional title are the Chicago Lawmen (11-1) who are rated #3 in the AFA's power ratings.
A meeting of those two would give the winner an AFA State Championship (IL) as well as
the Midwest regional title.
The AFA's Northeast regional title seems pretty secure in the hands of the 7-0-1
Southern Maine Raging Bulls, the AFA's #8 overall power rated team. In the Mideast
Regional area, #5 ranked Prince William (VA) Monarchs (15-2) moved ahead of the
Scranton Eagles and the West Virginia Wham (8-1) as that regions title contender.
Contending for Southeast regional honors are the St. Petersburg (FL) Sharks (12-3) and
the Space Coast Florida Panthers (13-4) as well as the Gastonia (NC) Gladiators (7-1-1).
The Gladiators are an independent team trying to gather enough games together to
qualify for a regional title.
Moving to the Western Divisional side of the AFA national map, the Puget Sound (Wash)
Jets (11-1) have locked up the Northwest regional title and are currently the AFA's #4
team in the nation while the Southwest region seems to be dominated by the #11 ranked
team in the nation, the 8 and 1 Inglewood (CA) Blackhawks.
The North Central regional title is likely to go to the Minneapolis (MN) Lumberjacks of the
Mid-America League with their #9 national ranking and a 8-1-0 overall record. The South
Central title is firmly in the hands of the #2 nationally ranked Wichita Falls (TX) Drillers
(10-1) while the #12 New Mexico Razorbacks (14-1) are second in line for that regions
title. The Drillers were the runner up for the AFA National title in 1999 when they were
defeated in the AFA's "Semi-Pro-Super-Bowl XX" by the Marlboro (MA) Shamrocks 26 to
7 in Marlboro.
With only 5 more weeks remaining before the AFA announces their State and Regional
title winners - teams are now in the process of jockeying around their post season
schedules in order to move up in the AFA's national power ratings - in hopes of securing
state and regional titles. The road to the AFA's 22nd. Annual National Championship
goes through the two top rated teams in the nation (eastern/western divisions) at the
close of the AFA regional title team selections - which will be announced nationally on
Thanksgiving Day - November 22nd.
ON ANOTHER NOTE: The AFA's Minnesota Vixens have a short three-game season this
year, with one home game, 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Midway Stadium.
Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $7 for 13-17 and 65+, $4 for 5-12. Kids 4 and under are
free. I have coupons for $5 off adult tickets and up to 6 kids under 12 free with one paid
adult.
Tickets will be available at the gate. If you can't make it to the game and you live in St.
Paul, you can watch us on St. Paul Neighborhood Network. They seem to be ready for
prime time -- or at least cable access.
The Vixens were subject of a PBS documentary last year being featured as pioneers in
full contact american rules football for women. We are proud to have them as members of
the American Football Association. STAY TUNED!!!
